Gibbs-Green College

When writing PSION, we knew that HBCU life needed to be at the core of the comic. As an alum of Jackson State University, I naturally created a school that honored my alma mater—in more ways than one.

Gibbs-Green College takes its name from the Gibbs-Green Tragedy, a horrific event of police violence that took place on Jackson State’s campus in May 1970.

Similar to how Milestone Comics honored Virgil Hawkins in Static, we look to remember Philip Gibbs and James Green within the pages of PSION.

Why Mississippi?

The choice of location for PSION was no random decision.

New York and California have plenty of heroes, but the South rarely gets the attention it deserves, outside of a select few characters.

For our journey, we explicitly made the South our stage, showcasing the scale of a southern capital while highlighting the beauty Jackson has to offer.
